Parker Reef Fishing Trip
|
www.reefari.com We took Mako out on a fishing trip to Parker Reef, and a new wreck we found on the way. Parker Reef is located about 45 Nautical miles(approx 90 Kilometres) to the North East from Mackay. Some great fishing can be found if you know where to look. This is one of the closest reefs from Mackay and does get a fair bit of fishing pressure from the smaller trailer boats. Parker Reef isn't a very large reef, maybe 1 kilometre across, but worth a fish around the edges for Coral trout, or a troll for Spanish Mackerel and giant Trevally. Because of it's size Parker Reef doesn't offer a lot of protection for an anchorage from our usual South easters, but still a great spot to visit for a day trip, Mako is a Steber 41 gameboat and a great seaboat. Conditions on the day picked up from a forecast 10 -15 knots to 20 knots and got quite messy. Luckily we were in the Steber and still have a comfortable trip home. We still managed some nice Nannygai and a good feed. The islands on the way were Keswick Island and St Bees. Keswick is currently being developed and more to come from this great spot. Mako is available for charter for Day trips and even better on two to four day charters into the remoter regions of the Great Barrier Reef and even better fishing. Mackay has arguably some of the best fishing Australia has to offer, especially for prime coral reef fish, such as coral trout and red Emperor. Also great sportsfishing for Giant Trevally and Spanish Mackerel. Make sure ... |
